Xbox's Biggest Racing Festival Is Heading to PlayStation The days of Forza Horizon being an Xbox-exclusive experience are officially behind us. Playground Games has confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 will launch on PlayStation 5 on January 26, 2027, bringing the latest entry in Microsoft's open-world racing franchise to Sony's console. The game originally launched on Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026, with a PlayStation release initially expected before the end of the year. That window has now shifted into early 2027. PlayStation players will finally get their opportunity to explore the streets, mountains and countryside of Japan in what Playground Games describes as the largest Forza Horizon experience yet. And while the wait is longer than originally expected, the PS5 version is arriving with some important advantages. Welcome to Japan For the first time in the franchise, Forza Horizon is taking players to Japan. The setting has been one of the most requested destinations among fans for years, and Playground Games is delivering a massive open world inspired by the country's automotive culture. Players can explore Tokyo, mountain roads, rural communities and scenic highways while participating in the Horizon Festival. Japan's legendary car culture is central to the experience. From street racing and drifting to collecting rare vehicles and customizing builds, the game is designed to celebrate the country's relationship with automobiles. With more than 550 vehicles, players will have plenty of opportunities to build their dream garages. The game also introduces a progression system that begins with players arriving as tourists before working their way into the Horizon Festival and eventually earning Legend status. For PlayStation players who have never experienced a Horizon game, this is not a traditional racing simulator. Forza Horizon combines arcade-style driving, realistic vehicle designs, exploration and a festival atmosphere that encourages players to enjoy the journey as much as the finish line. Cross-Play and Cross-Save Are Confirmed One of the biggest announcements surrounding the PlayStation release is full cross-platform support. Forza Horizon 6 will support cross-play and cross-save between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. That means PlayStation players will be able to race against friends regardless of which supported platform they use. Even better, players who previously started their journey on Xbox or PC can carry their progress over to PlayStation by linking the appropriate Microsoft account. This includes their existing game progression, allowing returning players to avoid starting their entire racing careers from scratch. There is one important limitation, however. Cross-save does not mean cross-buy. Players who already own Forza Horizon 6 on Xbox or PC will still need to purchase the PlayStation version separately. Paid downloadable content must also be purchased for the platform where players want to use it. Your progress can travel between consoles, but your purchase does not. PlayStation Players Will Have Access to Community Creations The PS5 version will also support the community features that have helped make Forza Horizon popular. Players will have access to user-created races, custom vehicle liveries, tuning setups and other community content already available across Xbox and PC. That includes creations built using EventLab, the game's custom event system. Instead of arriving in a completely separate online environment, PlayStation players will join the established Forza Horizon 6 community. The Festival Playlist will also remain synchronized across platforms, allowing everyone to participate in the same seasonal events and activities. This is particularly important because PlayStation players will be joining several months after the original launch. They will have access to a growing collection of player-created content from the moment they begin playing. How Will Forza Horizon 6 Perform on PS5? The PlayStation version is being developed by Panic Button in collaboration with Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios. Players will have two graphical options: - Quality Mode: 4K resolution at 30 frames per second. - Performance Mode: 60 frames per second. Quality Mode prioritizes visual presentation, while Performance Mode focuses on smoother gameplay. For a racing game where quick reactions and precise steering matter, the 60 FPS option will likely be attractive to many players. Separate technical specifications for PS5 Pro have not yet been detailed. Forza Horizon 6 PlayStation Editions and Prices Standard Edition $69.99

Players who preorder a full edition will also receive a specially tuned Ferrari J50, available after completing the game's prologue. Premium Edition owners can begin playing on January 21, 2027, five days before the Standard and Deluxe Editions launch. The First Expansion Arrives Alongside Early Access Another interesting detail is that Forza Horizon 6's first major expansion is scheduled for January 21, 2027. That means Premium Edition owners on PlayStation will receive access to the game on the same day the expansion launches across the existing platforms. Playground Games says the expansion will introduce a new location, additional gameplay and collectible vehicles. The developer has not yet revealed the expansion's name or full contents. PlayStation players will also receive the updates and improvements introduced since the original Xbox and PC launch. This includes additional activities and other post-launch changes, meaning the PlayStation version will not begin with an outdated version of the game. A Major Moment for Xbox and PlayStation The arrival of Forza Horizon 6 on PlayStation represents another significant change in Microsoft's gaming strategy. For years, Forza was one of the franchises closely associated with Xbox hardware. Alongside Halo and Gears of War, it helped establish the identity of Microsoft's gaming ecosystem. Now, PlayStation players are gaining access to one of Xbox's most recognizable racing series. For consumers, the benefits are straightforward. More players can experience the game, friends can race together across platforms and the community can continue growing without being separated by console ownership. For Microsoft, expanding the franchise to PlayStation creates an opportunity to reach players who may never have considered purchasing an Xbox. It also raises an interesting question about the future of console exclusivity. As publishers increasingly look beyond individual hardware platforms, franchises once considered permanently tied to one console are reaching entirely new audiences. The Wait Will Be Worth Watching Forza Horizon 6 coming to PlayStation is a significant moment for racing fans. Japan provides a setting that players have requested for years, the vehicle collection is enormous and cross-platform support means PlayStation owners will not be separated from the existing community. The delay into January is disappointing for anyone expecting to play before the end of 2026. However, launching with months of updates, community creations and an expansion arriving alongside Premium Early Access gives PlayStation players a more complete package. Forza Horizon 6 launches January 26, 2027, for PlayStation 5, with Premium Early Access beginning January 21. Xbox may have hosted the festival first, but PlayStation drivers are finally getting an invitation.
